Talisker Bay Beach: Escape the crowds at this hidden gem on Isle of Skye

Isle of Skye is one of Scotland’s most visited places, and for good reason. It’s probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. But that also means it can be tough to find places without tourists. Luckily, we found a fantastic one! Even in June, in the height of tourist season, there were only a handful of others who ventured out to this hidden gem.

How to get there: To get to Talisker Bay Beach, head to the village of Talisker on the west coast of Isle of Skye. Once you pass the village, continue on the A863. As with most roads in Skye, the road is a single lane with passing areas and can be a bit bumpy, so take it slow.

As you start to descend toward the ocean, about 1.2 miles to the beach, you’ll see a farm and likely some cars parked on the side of the road. Park here! Talisker Bay Beach can only be accessed on foot via private road that does not allow cars.

On the walk to the beach, you’ll pass a farm with peacocks and other exotic birds, which was an interesting discovery in Scotland! You’ll then pass through a gate, walk down a carriage road, and pass a private residence. From there, you’ll go through another gate, which will lead you on a path across a large meadow with many sheep, leading directly to the ocean.
